Remote Access
|
|
'); // --> The term remote access refers to access to a computer or other communication equipment using an external data link. The remote access can be achieved using standard interfaces such as Ethernet, serial interfaces, modems, or even USB ports, or they can utilize proprietary hardware interfaces. Likewise, software for remote access can consist of standard protocols such as TCP/IP or custom protocols provided by a remote access software vendor. These days, most remote access is achieved using standard Internet protocols that can be used over just about any network interface. A new generation of remote access appliances are being manufactured that provide all of the remote access functions a company could require into a single rack mounted unit. Software based remote access is also available in the form of dedicated servers and firewalls. Remote access has also become a synonym for remote computer control. Many times it becomes necessary to take control of a networked computer and execute programs, view the contents of the connected monitor, etc. This type of remote access allows an external user to interact with the PC as if they were using a connected mouse and keyboard. |
