One of the most popular ways to study abroad is to become an exchange student and spend the last year of high school in a foreign country. Exchange student programs vary is duration from 3 month, 6 months, or a full year. There are also a number of different countries that you can attend, but there are language requirements if you go to a non English speaking country. For example, exchange students headed for France will need to have completed 2 years of French before they can be considered for a program. This is because; the exchange student will be expected to participate in classes along with their foreign classmates. Foreign exchange students are placed in homes with host families that provide a stable living environment for the stay along with room and board. The student is normally required to provide needed items such as clothing, school supplies, spending money, and pay for their phone calls back home. The cost to participate in a student exchange program varies depending on the country and the length of stay, but you should expect to pay between $4,000 and $10,000 for the experience of a lifetime |
