Technical Writer

A technical writer puts technical information into easily understandable language. In general, a technical writer is expected to prepare operating and maintenance manuals, catalogs, parts lists, assembly instructions, sales promotion materials, and project proposals. A technical writer also works with engineers on technical subject matters to prepare written interpretations of engineering and design specifications and other information for a general readership. It is also the job of a technical write to plan and edit technical materials and to oversee the preparation of illustrations, photographs, diagrams, and charts.

Often times a technical writer is part of a contracting firm that specializes in the field of data production and technical writing. The technical writer can work in your office or remotely depending on the need for interaction with your engineering staff. A few of the most important things to look for when interviewing a technical writer are command of the written language they will be working in, their ability to interact with key team members to obtain information for their writing, and their ability to take the information given and present in a form that is understandable by engineers and non-engineers alike
