'); // --> Acupuncture is considered one of the leading 'alternative' medicinal treatment practices available today. Originating in China around 2700 BC, acupuncture has a very long history of being used to treat a wide variety of ailments, ranging from muscular and bone aches, all the way to arthritis, obesity and even alcoholism. Whether acupuncture is effective at treating these ailments is still debated within the medical community, but this has not prevented acupuncture from gaining great acceptance around the world, including in the United States. Acupuncture, at it's most basic level, is the medical art of inserting very fine needles into various areas of the body's surface, sometimes in conjunction with a light electrical stimulus. It is not readily known how acupuncture works, but various theories include that acupuncture causes blood vessels to constrict or dilate, altering the body's circulation, or by manipulating the body's reaction to nervous responses. |
