Chemical Peels
|
|
'); // --> Chemical peels use a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. According to plastic surgeons, it is helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation. A chemical peel is most commonly performed for cosmetic reasons -- to enhance your appearance and your self confidence. A chemical peel may also remove pre-cancerous skin growths, soften acne facial scars and even control acne. In certain cases, health insurance may cover the peel procedure. It is recommended that you check your policy and contact your insurance company before the procedure is performed. There are three main types of chemicals used in chemical peels: phenols, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or alphahydroxy acids (AHAs). Each type of chemical has a different effect, and is used differently. Your doctor will help you decide which type of chemical peel is correct for you. It should be noted that a chemical peel does carry a certain amount of risk. Although most procedures are performed safely without side effects, be sure to check with your doctor what these potential risks may be, and consider them carefully before deciding to have a chemical peel performed. |
