Cystic Fibrosis causes the body to produce thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs, leads to infection, and blocks the pancreas, which stops digestive enzymes from reaching the intestine where they are required in order to digest food. There is currently no known cure for cystic fibrosis - however, there a variety of newly developed treatments that give promise to those with the disease. These include experimental gene therapies, as well as a variety of new medicines designed to treat the infections that cystic fibrosis causes. |
