Storage Shed

A storage shed is an excellent investment when you think about its many uses. A storage shed is not only used for storage, it also provides protection for the elements for your lawn and garden tools. Protecting your garden tools from the weather will normally double their useful life and in time a storage shed will pay for itself in tool replacement cost alone.

When you are deciding on a storage shed, there are many factors you should take into consideration. First you should decide on placement in your yard. That will dictate the size and style of storage shed that you should consider. If you have a small space and only need to store a few things, a plastic storage shed could do the trick. These handy little sheds are available online to at most home improvement stores for about $300. They are waterproof and moveable and will normally last at least 10 years.

If you have more room to accommodate your storage shed, you can look into aluminum and wood as possibilities. And Aluminum shed comes as prefabricated kits that you can assemble yourself in an afternoon. They don’t usually come with a floor so you will have to either pour a cement pad or build a raised wooden floor. I don’t recommend placing it directly on the ground as rainwater tends to seep in and you get mud inside the shed. Aluminum storage sheds come in a wide variety of styles, shapes and sizes so you can probably find one that fits the bill. They can cost between $600 and $3000 depending on size, features, etc. These sheds are extremely durable and can last a lifetime.

A wooden storage shed can also comes as pre-fabricated standard kits, or they can be custom built. This type of storage shed is usually professionally installed and the installation cost is included in the price of the shed. The installation crew will handle all the details of the installation and can even provide power, water, and lights to your shed. As you can imagine these shed can be expensive and depending on where you live you can expect to pay between $2000 and $5000 for a finished storage shed. You can usually select the interior finishing options to include sheetrock, carpet, lights, etc. which of course affect the process. These sheds are as durable as the aluminum ones above, but are more like small houses than sheds.
