Water Filters

Nothing is more important for good health than clean safe drinking water. As concern grows over the safety of drinking water, many people are installing home water filter systems to remove unwanted chemicals and other toxic elements from their family’s water. As water filter technology has matured, it has become very affordable to ether install a system into you house water lines or at least use a tap water filtration device. If you are considering a home water filtration system, here are some important points to think about.

A mechanical filter system provides excellent filtering by passing your water at high pressure through porous filters. These filters eliminate small particles and when used in conjunction with an activated charcoal filter, you can remove many unwanted chemical elements. Mechanical water filter systems require high pressure and should normally be installed by a professional. When the filter becomes clogged, it can be easily replaced by the homeowner. Keep in mind this type of filter does not remove salts or other elements from the water so hard water will stay hard.

Under the sink reverse osmosis water filters have been around for many years and provide excellent water filtering and purification duties. They use a very fine membrane that only allows water molecules to pass through leaving resulting in nearly pure water. These filters do have limits on the amount of water that they can produce and can take hours to produce a few gallons of water. They also require good water pressure to operate a maximum output. This type of water filter can normally be purchased at a home improvement store and installed by the homeowner.

Also available are home distillation devices that use evaporation to capture pure water. These systems produce pure water, but they have a very limited output capacity since the process takes some time to complete. They are also more expensive to operate as they need a heat source to provide the evaporation.

If you just want to remove the bad tasting impurities from you local water, you should consider one of the tap mounted or pitcher type water filters from Brita or Pur. Both of these filters do an excellent job removing chlorine and other bad tastes from you water. They will leave salts and fluoride and will not remove bacteria or cysts.
